Streamlining Your Payroll Process

Speaker: David Wakeling

Mr. Wakeling recently retired after 31 years with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).  As Payroll Manager, David Wakeling was responsible for the activities of a 10,000 employee, six union group payroll.  In 2015, Metro won the American Payroll Association prestigious Prism Award for best payroll processes.

Mr. Wakeling has over 40 years of experience as an accountant and payroll professional responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting.  He has also been Project Manager for the implementation of financial and payroll systems.  Mr. Wakeling has taught the Payroll Professional Learning Series for several years at Chapman University.

Mr. Wakeling currently serves on the APA Board of Advisors and Government/Public Sector Task Force.  He received the APA Meritorious Service Award in 2014, and was inducted into the APA Hall of Fame.  Mr. Wakeling received the APA Payroll Man of the Year Award in 2017.

The LAAPA is a non-profit organization consisting of dedicated payroll professionals, human resource and financial professionals throughout the Los Angeles area. Our membership represents hundreds of businesses in the Greater Los Angeles area, from the largest industrial firms to small emerging businesses.

 Our goals are to increase the payroll professional's skill level through education, mutual support and to gain recognition for payroll as the professional discipline it has become in today's business and legislative environment. We take great pride in the achievements our organization has accomplished.
